NSM security grading (Sikkerhetsloven)
Norway's National Security Authority (NSM) administers the Security Act (sikkerhetsloven), which defines national security classification grades. Improbus uses these grades as a reference framework — we align how carefully we handle sensitive material to their definitions.
Alignment, not clearance. We reference the NSM grade definitions to calibrate how carefully material is stored, transmitted, and shared; our day-to-day sharing is governed by TLP and PAP. Formally graded national material remains subject to sikkerhetsloven and the data owner's authority.
The four grades
- STRENGT HEMMELIGTop secret. Unauthorised disclosure could cause exceptionally grave harm to national security interests.
- HEMMELIGSecret. Disclosure could cause serious harm to security interests.
- KONFIDENSIELTConfidential. Disclosure could cause harm to security interests.
- BEGRENSETRestricted. Disclosure could to some degree harm security interests.
How Improbus applies it
We map the sensitivity of material to the closest NSM grade to decide how it is stored, transmitted, and shared — combined with a TLP distribution label and a PAP action label. This is a handling-alignment reference, not a claim of facility clearance; any genuinely graded national material is handled under the applicable statutory rules and the data owner's direction.
